The Crystal Waters clear and sparkling white sand beaches of the Perhentian Islands in Malaysia for many years have captured the hearts and imaginations of the backpackers and is going through. In recent years, however, a different type of travelers coming to the Perhentian Islands to see how their reputation as a premier diving destination has slowly increased between the communities of scuba diving.

In fact, it would be fair to say that much of the success ofPerhentian Islands as a dive site should be attributed to neighboring Thailand, and resort dive in Koh Tao, Phuket and Koh Samui. They have learned a great number of passengers who appear in the largest district in Thailand, often find themselves gravitating to the natural beauty of the Perhentian Islands. Looking for a last dive before the hustle and bustle of Kuala Lumpur and Singapore!

The islands consist of Pulau Perhentian Kecil and PerhentianPulau Perhentian Besar, and are located about 20 km off the coast of Malaysia. Offer what only be described as a piece of paradise, palm trees beaches surround this tropical island, while the crystal clear waters hide a wealth of marine and coral below.

Diving Perhentian Islands is of high level and a variety of dive sites has meant that the islands are a popular destination for people who need to have a dipCourse. There are about ten dive sites, which are regularly visited by dive centers in the Perhentian Islands. These Tokong is recognized Laut (Temple of the Sea) is widely considered the best diving area in the islands. A large rocks Fieldstone directly on the northwest coast of Perhentian Kecil offers some of the best examples of soft coral formations in the region. This stunning carpet of soft coral provides a home for a variety of marine life including kingfish,Barracuda, nurse sharks and black tip reef sharks.

For fans of wreck diving, there are two excellent dive sites in Perhentian Islands. The Sugar Wreck, a cargo ship that sank 90 meters in 2000, and the wreck is still possible to plunge Vietnamese in the wreck.

If you plan to immerse themselves in the Perhentian Islands, the best time to go for a visit is from April to October, when visibility and weather conditions are at their best. November to March sees the 'Monsoon season, when the weather is bad and will be limited to access to and from the islands with the rough sea.

The Perhentian Islands offer superb scuba diving, and the superficial nature of the dive sites here make it a good choice for the beginner or novice divers. But what makes the islands so special is the stunning natural beauty and undeveloped landscapes. Do you really think you can stretch out in your piece of paradise!

The Bangkok Survivor¿s Handbook: A Guide to Living in Asia¿s City of Angels Review

I spent 9 months in Thailand in the Peace Corps many years ago, and visited the LOS again last May. I have started fantasizing about retiring there, so I bought “The Bangkok Survivor’s Handbook” to add more fact to my fantasy. Most guidebooks are a struggle for me to read, but this one is such fun that I finished it in one sitting, interrupted only by supper.
It is definitely targeted at individuals who are considering living in Thailand for an extended period, rather than visiting as tourists, and where it is location-specific, it refers primarily to Bangkok, but there is still a wealth of detail on virtually everything one would need to know to move to Thailand for more than just a vacation. And based on my limited experience, RH did not make any claims or statements that I considered to be wrong or inaccurate.
Topics addressed include, but are not limited to, obtaining and renewing visas, finding and renting an apartment, obtaining medical care, work opportunities, shopping, dining, internet service, English-language schools [for English-speaking families with children], banks and transferring money, etc.
The most delightful aspect to TBSH however, is that the writing is very good. It flows smoothly, with a comfortable but not excessive level of humor, and I did not note any sentences that I had to read twice to make sense of them! It is reasonably current, having been published in January of 2003, and includes many web sites and e-mail addresses for those who want to learn more. Best in Class!!

The Bangkok Survivor¿s Handbook: A Guide to Living in Asia¿s City of Angels Overview

While this book is a valuable resource for anyone visiting Bangkok, it is especially useful for those persons who are going to live in the city. Here, you will find the facts you need to know for planning, setting up, and maintaining your Bangkok base.

It describes how to choose and apply for the visa best suited for your needs and provides details on visa renewal, the most important elements for a successful, long-term stay in Thailand. Listings of appropriate government offices are included.

It gives you a step-by-step method for determining where in the city to live, choosing an apartment, obtaining the best rental agreements and utilities costs. The information is backed-up with listings and photos of apartments with rents ranging from 0 to 0 a month.

It shows you how to make money transfers, open Thai bank accounts, as well as ATM and credit card usage. Included are listings of Thai and US banks and agencies.

The topics of health care quality and costs are covered in depth and include listings of hospitals, clinics and health insurance providers that are favored by the foreign community.

It also provides details for city transportation and fares, shopping center locations, sports clubs and social organizations for foreigners, schools for foreign students, cultural customs, parks and recreational areas, and income opportunities.

Many more topics are included in this book and covered in detail with text, listings and photos that will ease your move to The City of Angels, Bangkok.

The Best Women’s Travel Writing 2009: True Stories from Around the World (Travelers’ Tales) Review

Many of women travel books state that the writing are humorous, but the stories aren’t funny. Others have women lamenting over how she looks in a bathing suit or a romantic breakup, neither of which has anything to do with the place they’re visiting or the people they meet. Thankfully this book only has one story that fit the second fault stated above. It’s “Homecoming Istanbul” by Banu Francoise Hummel.

The other essays are wonderfully descriptive and expressive stories of each woman’s interactions with the people, cities, countries, and sites. I got a sense of the sensations and experiences that the writers were trying to convey.

I felt the sogginess, sexiness and coldness of the rains in France, Mexico and Scotland; the gritty sand in the Taklamakan desert; again coldness in Italy; fear in the Amazon and Botswana; and learned that there are many different types of trips in Jamaica.

Each story was so delightful (except the one written in Turkey) that I couldn’t wait to read the next one. These stories inspired me to want to go to places I never considered before, which a true travel book should instill in it’s readers.

Great job to all the essayists and the editor, Lucy McCauley.

I want to have it as a souvenir picture book for keepsake, and 2. I want to see where else I can go to when I visit Thailand next time. Thailand is so big and diverse, my 2-week trip was obviously not long enough for me to see everything. This book is perfect because it is not too long that would scare away some people, but it provides very captivating descriptions of attractions with maps and web links at the back of the book if you wish to explore them in more details.

This is NOT a book for history or geography buffs who wish to learn about Thailand in detail. This is more like a movie trailer that let you know about the exciting things that exist there and make you want to go and experience it yourself. The book is divided by regions: The North, North East, Central, Bangkok, and South Thailand. Each region then briefly introduces its history and some of its most popular cities and districts with tons of amazing pictures with captions that tell you what and where it is. There are also pages that talk about traditions and cultural festivals and when they are held — a good info for those who wish to see more.

After reading it for a couple minutes, I found myself fascinated by pages after pages of large, beautiful pictures and paragraphs that never cease to generate my interest in visiting this place. I highly recommend this book.

An ideal gift for any occasion!

The Impact of 9-11 on Thailand’s Tourism Industry by Focusing on the First-Class Hotel Market in Bangkok Overview

Diplomarbeit, die am 04.08.2002 erfolgreich an einer Fachhochschule in Deutschland im Fachbereich Wirtschaftswissenschaften eingereicht wurde. Abstract: “Sawasdee Khrap” – welcome to the kingdom of Thailand. A number of valid characterizations such as “The Land of Smiles”, “The Land of Temples and Pagodas” and “Tropical Vacation Paradise” describe Thailand at its best. In addition to these picturesque synonyms, the kingdom gained international recognition through its growing travel and hospitality industry. In 2001 Thailand once again booked the top spot as most preferred tourist destination in South East Asia as well as runner-up position in all of Asia, second only to China. When Muslim extremists hijacked four domestic U.S. flights and cowardly carried out the terrorist attack of 9-11 on the U.S.A., the global travel sector felt the direct impact of the terrorist attacks like no other industry. From one day to the other tourists decided to stay at or close to home and hotel rooms were left vacant. As major employer and source for foreign exchange earnings, Thailand’s tourism industry was no exception to the threat. As the brutality and human tragedy of this incident will always be remembered, the following report will focus solely on the implications for the tourism and hospitality industry. In specific, the text will take an in-depth look at the development of the first class hotel market in Bangkok following the September attacks. The report looks at 14 top hotels of Bangkok and their performance from January 2000 to March 2002. Special attention lies on the seven months following the U.S.A. attacks in September 2001, whereas a full year comparison of 2000 and 2001 will also provide valid information. The tourism and hospitality industry is a major economic driving factor not only for Thailand, but also for many other Asian nations. Therefore, the beginning of this report deals with the regional development after the terrorist attacks. This way th…
